It always takes longer to get home

Last weekend we ventured on an 7ish hour (driving time) trip to visit my sister in Atlanta. The trip down was great. The kiddo's did great, despite our dvd setup not working. We only made 2 stops of any length (and 1 quick potty stop for mommy) and still got there by 6:00....Even with Atlanta rush hour traffic.

The way home however was a different story. We left about the same time. The first half of the trip took about 3 1/2 hours. Right on schedule. We then decided, since we were making such good time to take a detour off the Hwy to a nearby state park and have a picnic with the boys, let them play, check out the campground for future reference, just have fun on the drive. We were there for about 2 hours and then took off for the last 3-4 hours of the trip. It took us 6. We get back on the freeway, drove for a little while and get stuck in traffic. As we are 1 mile before a rest area in the middle of a construction zone where we are topping out at 10 miles an hour I ask #1, do you need to use the potty? No.....2miles and 20 minutes later MOMMY I have to go poopy....>GREAT< We told him to try to hold and we stop as soon as we can. Half hour later we go rushing into a Walmart, but guess what no poop...ok we walk around a while to see if that will get things moving for him. Nope. So back in the car we go, another 1/2 down the road....Mommy I'm really hungry for supper. Hubby was also echoing this thought. Ok, let's pull over, we get off at the next exit as we are in the middle of no where...or so we thought, and have our choice Pizza hut or two sit down places. Pizza hut it is. Even that's a gamble after a day of driving. Kids were actually suprisingly good, and #1 finally went poopy, and off we go again. We did make that final 1 1/2 hours without a stop, #1 fell asleep and #2 watched his movies the whole way. We got home at 9:00. Had to get the kids in, and in bed for school on Tues.

We did have a really nice time in Atlanta. The highlight of the trip for the kids was riding MARTA (the public transportation system and rail train) into downtown to play in the Centenial Park sprinklers. It was put in for the olympics. The highlight of the trip for me was our trip to Ikea :-)

I promise Pictures of the trip will follow as soon as I get them all downloaded and sorted.
